Women In Distress assists participants with learning about their rights as victims of domestic violence. Advocates can help by filing victims’ compensation claims and accessing resources for assistance. Advocates assess participants' needs, assist them in developing a personalized safety plan, identify community resources for services needed, provide assistance in accessing those services, coordinate services, and
follow-up.
These services offered at Women In Distress are essential to assist victims in stabilizing their lives after victimization, helping them understand and participate in the criminal justice system, and providing them with safe shelter, if needed.
Collaborations
Meeting the needs of all domestic violence victims requires effective collaboration between domestic violence service providers, victim advocates and experts. WID partners with a variety of community agencies within Broward County to provide needed services to domestic violence victims.
